Upper Captiva also known as North Captiva Island
is the best-kept secret in Florida. Only four miles long and
half a mile wide, North Captiva is a Caribbean-style barrier
island accessible only by a short boat ride. There are no
cars and no paved roads (transportation is only by electric
golf cart on palm tree covered sandy roads!)
Development has been carefully planned and the
environment protected to insure that everyone will be able
to enjoy one of the few remaining natural wonders of Florida.
The Island abounds with outdoor beauty. Over
700 acres of natural habitat have been preserved for the protection
of endangered wildlife.
There are so many things to do and see here
on Upper Captiva Island.
The wildlife sanctuary and wilderness park
is great for hiking and bicycling.
Migratory and nesting birds such as osprey,
herons, egrets wood storks, bald and sea eagles, pelicans
and over 500 other species can been seen at different times
of the year. Gopher tortoises and sea turtles roam this island
Wonderland freely.
Manatees, dolphins and sea otters are regular
sights from the islands shores!
The fishing is exceptional and includes snook,
tarpon, red fish, flounder, sea trout, snapper and many other
varieties are caught in these waters. Numerous activities
are available on this unspoiled island for visitors such as
beach combing, bird watching, fishing, swimming, shelling,
dolphin watching, nature walks, boating, reading, photographing
wild life, stargazing, kayaking, and best of all doing absolutely
nothing but relaxing in your own private Island Paradise.
